Get the Look: Magazines + Makeovers

The past four months at Bassett Furniture/HGTV Home Design Studio have flown by! I have had the creative opportunity to help so many new clients with their room makeovers and custom furniture selections. Getting familiar with the full range of Bassett collections and home accents took some time, both on the showroom floor and via many online class hours (provided through Bassett University) but it was fun to get to know all that we have to offer. At Bassett, we are constantly receiving new pieces at our Burlington location and even more are introduced regularly on our website which keeps our design inventory current and exciting. I am loving my new home/design studio! As soon as I photograph my client room makeovers that have been delivered, I will share pics.

In the meantime, here are some Get the Look sets that I created based on rooms I loved in House Beautiful and Traditional Home magazines. All furnishings (upholstery, lighting, art, carpets, etc.) in these sets are available from Bassett. Whether you like bright colors or neutral palettes, geometric patterns or rich velvets, traditional or modern pieces, we can help you create the look you want.

If you have a room you would like to be magazine-worthy, schedule a complimentary makeover visit and room reveal via my contact link on Bassett. I also work with local interior design professionals who want to source quality pieces for their own client projects that can be custom-made and delivered in about 30 days. We are able to specify COM (customers own material) on all our custom upholstery pieces provided it passes our upholstery durability testing. I love projects small or large and am happy to help as much as needed. Having so many design resources under one roof makes it easy (and fun!)

In about a month there will be a new Del Friscos Grille steakhouse opening in our parking lot. Summer will be a great time to come visit us : )

The idea of design for me is about giving something an aesthetic, a point of view and making something beautiful. The world of design means you can create beautiful things, whatever that is or whatever you choose to do.” - Richard Chai

My Happy Place

Working at the Designer Bath showroom for the past six months has opened my eyes to a wide range of beautiful fixtures that I never knew existed before. Along with being crafted of the highest quality materials, the product lines they carry almost always have brand-specific collections created for them by world-renowned designers (Jason Wu for Brizo, Barbara Barry for Kallista, and Phillipe Stark for Duravit for example).

Since I have a few bath renovation projects on my to-do list (well technically on my husbands list : ) I have been daydreaming about bringing home some of the pretty pieces that I have recently discovered. Since there is no way that I can choose just one look (I have come to love and appreciate so many different styles, choosing one will be like choosing a favorite child) I am going to start putting together a few different design plans and then see what works for my “significant others.” Seeing that I share my space with all guys, I have to come up with a look that is boy friendly, but that still appeals to my need for a bit of glam.

My first design plan incorporates a collection from Duravit that is called Happy D created by Sieger Design of Germany. This classic, yet modern, Bauhaus-inspired style is pretty to look at, but not the least bit fussy. I am particularly fond of the metal console beneath the washbasin that functions as a towel bar. Geometric patterns like the herringbone shower curtain and hexagon floor tile work for both boys and girls, while a print of a tuxedoed bird speaks to the formal art of getting dressed in a gender neutral way. By including some bright red accents to this mostly utilitarian space, I get my girlie-fix in a room that still welcomes the yin to my yang.

Stay tuned for more design plans featuring brands that have caught my eye in the showroom. If you could design the bath of your dreams, what would it look like?

Creating an inspiration board

Inspiration Board: 2012

Inspiration Board: 2012 by designvignettes

Instead of writing down what I want to happen in 2012, I put together a Polyvore set of images that mean something to me personally. I even kept a little white space in the bottom corner to leave room for the unexpected (the good variety, of course : )

What are you imagining for your new year?

Time for summer fun ...

Summer vacation has begun and it’s time to celebrate! There is always something fun to do in the summer. Even just sitting outside, enjoying a snack, and talking with friends can be enough to make most of us happy. Although a little music wouldn’t hurt ...

Boston has a great summer concert series including live music at lunch time and concerts under the stars, all presented for free. The Boston Harbor Hotel at Rowes Wharf will be hosting the band Joey Scott and the Connection from 6pm to 10pm tonight as part of its Wednesday night Timeless Tunes series. For more info on other free music events scheduled just outside of this gorgeous waterfront hotel this summer, click here.

Check your local town listings and see what is happening this summer in your community, or simply grab a picnic blanket, a friend or two, and some favorite portable tunes to stage a small concert of your own ; )
